We couldn't express it any better than our beloved competitor Jim Girand....... today was a new challenge...... we've had great weather for most of the last four years, but today.... well, here it is from Jim:
'Loyal Wolf Pack Supporters and Participants.....!!
Too long for Facebook.....!
An extraordinary experience today - even for one who only did the 5K.
Every person who did the Du or supported it is a hero but I will only comment on a few we know well....!!
Rain......Rain...........Rain............God, it came in torrents - unrelenting - parking lot awash - run course soggy,
muddy and worse...!!
The run across the dam was breathtaking.....!! Nearly full reservoir - wind blowing hard across it -
water running over the asphalt path - heavy clouds advancing - you get the drift. - Stunning view.....!!
Every volunteer remained in place, including Brigitte Hillesheim at the turn on the dam, unprotected from the torrential rain
and gale winds - standing firm - offering support to every competitor....!!
No place to hide - the tents leaked or had large buckets of water dumped as pockets filled up.........
Wolf came in from the bike eyes ablaze - barely pausing and off down the steep hill. Mike McCarty or 'Grand' followed, drenched
and focused. Tom Parker hanging tough and determined to do well set out on the last run.
Not on the course, I can only recount the stories of those who were. Timmy Winslow, the 18 tear old winner - 'coming down
the last long downhill 40 mph my glasses fogged up, lifted them, hit by a wave of water and just hung on for dear life'. No one there
disputed his account.
And, the rain continued unceasing.......!
Mike said the conditions were as bad as Worlds Affoltern, Switzerland, or St. Wendel, Germany - the gold standards for hardest
courses from his library of 23 Worlds venues.
Onlookers huddle closer together for warmth and relief............... to no avail.
Hot pizzas arrive and Wolf orders more - for the San Jose Cycling Club still out on the bike course.
Slight let up followed by bigger squalls - raining - pounding......!
To a man or woman who all did the du, smiling, triumphant - vowed to return April 5th and conquer that course.....!! The '3 Bears'
threw knock out punches to no avail. And, everyone got off the monster bike course vertical and healthy.
Definition of a successful race.
Few Race Directors and support team could 'du' it.......!!
Congratulations to Wolf Pack Events.................!!
Wow, that Du 3 Bears was a challenge. The rain was almost relentless, but the warriors persevered! Great job everyone!!
Next up is the Du Golden Bears Duathlon and 5 Mile Run/Walk. This is the second in our 6 Duathlon Event Series. For all of our regulars we are wishing you great training and great gains this year. For those of you who have not tried a Duathlon it is a 3 event race, like a Triathlon, but there is no Swim. It's Run/Bike/Run. This event offers a short and a long course. If that seems too challenging, hook up with your Buddies and do a Team, 2 man/woman, 3 man/woman, whatever combination works for you. We have Custom Finisher Medals for all Racers. Additionally, the Dauthlon goes 5 deep in Awards and they are Plaques. The 5 Mile is Finisher Medals, Plaques to Overall Man/Woman, and Medals to 1st/2nd/3rd.
Hoping you will get out there and just DU-it!!

Thank you for a great event today! Had a great race!
Thanks for a great event on 8/31, we had good time.
Friends and I participated in the Golden Gate Du yesterday and just want to say we had a lot of fun. It was our first time and will do it again next year.
I just wanted to say thank you for a very well run duathlon today. I have raced for 29 years all over the world taking part in 6 ironman hawaii's. Your event reminded me of the good old days when the events where so much fun. We need more race events like yours!!
Your volunteers where amazing as well. I plan on telling everyone about your up coming events!
I was so impressed with the DU Toes event I had to sign up for more - This time I'm bringing my wife and daughter. I'm also trying to get co-workers involved!
Saturday was my first Wolf Pack event (The Dam Run) and trail race in 20 yrs. I thoroughly enjoyed myself at this very well organized and greatly supported race. I felt part of a family. The markings were very clear, more then enough aid stations, plenty of post eats (wish I were hungry!) and best of all - THE MOST ENERGETIC VOLUNTEERS I HAVE EVER SEEN - they were fantastic! Thank you for the wonderful experience.
Another great race!!
It was my first formal duathlon (or tri) event and I had a great time. Very well organized and well run - thanks again to you and the volunteer staff. I think everyone could sense the effort made in having a smooth event and the little details helped - especially on the bear part of the course where I think someone wrote in chalk on the ground high gear but be careful. That was a very nice gesture. Appreciated a lot by newbies like myself.
I didn't realize I would get a plaque for coming in 4th place.
Thanks for a great day! See you in April.
Keep responding. We learn something new with each race and it is our goal to perfect our races and make them everything you're looking for in a competitive event.
SOME OF OUR RACES ARE PARTIALLY ON TRAILS AND PARTS OF THEM ARE ON THE PAVED, OLD SAN PABLO DAM ROAD, ESTABLISHED IN THE 1930'S. ALL BIKE COURSES ARE ON PAVED ROAD. ALL COURSES HAVE SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF THE WATER. COME AND ENJOY, OR COME TO RACE.
